Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Screening
The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the holy grail for Dr. Solverson to nerd out about golf biomechanics and how the various issues with the body can affect an athlete’s golf swing. Dr. Solverson has been level one certified since 2019 but is working on completing two additional medical-specific training courses through TPI. Working with both professional and amateur golfers on improving their game and preventing injuries is a passion for Dr. Solverson.
During your golf swing, you are using almost every muscle and joint in your body. This is why golf is such a difficult sport – there are an incredible amount of variables that factor into a golfer’s swing. Today the game continues to become faster, more explosive, and longer than ever, which means even greater chances of injury during a swing. You don’t have to look any further than Tiger Woods and his five spinal surgeries to see how a golf swing can affect your back.
The TPI physical screening benefits you in two ways:
- It decreases the likelihood of experiencing an overuse injury while golfing.
- It helps you become more consistent by improving your overall physical function.
The TPI screen evaluates the major joints and muscles involved in the golf swing. During the screening, Dr. Solverson will take you through a number of physical tests to evaluate your swing. How you do on these tests determine possible weaknesses in the golfer’s body that may lead to injury, or may be negatively influencing their swing. Only when a golfer’s weaknesses are evaluated and identified can we correct for them with a custom exercise and stretching program.
